Hello October! Autumn Things to Do With Your Dog This Month ๐๐
October might just be our favourite month of the year.
Crunchy leaves, colder walks, muddy paws, pumpkin everything and most importantlyย Poochie Suit season is officially here!
So, if you're looking for things to do with your dog this October, we've rounded up some of our favourite ways to make the most of autumn together. From pumpkin patches and cosy pub trips to homemade treats and giving your dog's autumn wardrobe a little upgrade.
Here are 7ย autumn things to do with your dog this October. ๐
๐ 1. Visit a dog-friendly pumpkin patch
Is there anything more October than taking your dog pumpkin picking?
Find a local dog-friendly pumpkin patch, grab your camera and prepare for approximately 400 photos of your dog sitting next to increasingly large pumpkins.
Pumpkin patches also make the perfect backdrop for showing off your dog's finest autumn dog clothing particularly if, like us, you firmly believe autumn doesn't have to mean beige.
Just remember to check the individual pumpkin patch's dog policy before travelling, as some only allow dogs in certain areas or on particular dates.
Poochie tip: Bring treats. The pumpkins apparently aren't enough motivation to look at the camera.

๐ 2. Upgrade your autumn dog walks
Those first properly chilly October mornings are when dog walks start getting GOOD again.
Woodland trails, crunchy leaves, misty mornings and considerably less chance of everyone overheating.
It's also the perfect time to check your dog's autumn walking kit. Make sure their dog harness, collar and lead still fit comfortably and bring out any extra layers they might need as the temperature drops.
For slender and short-haired dogs in particular, autumn can mean it's time for their cosy clothes to make a comeback.
Our Poochie Suits are super-soft, stretchy, four-legged dog suits originally designed with noodle-shaped dogs in mind, including Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Greyhounds, Lurchers, Galgos and Xolos, but suit other breeds too!
And, importantly, they're toilet-friendly, so ready fo Autumn days out!
๐บ 3. Plan a dog-friendly pub trip
A chilly walk followed by a cosy dog-friendly pub might be one of autumn's greatest combinations.
And if you're around the Cotswolds, there's one particularly famous option not too far from Poochie Keen HQ: Jeremy Clarkson's The Farmer's Dog, near Burford.
Dogs are welcome at the pub, making it a fun one to add to your autumn dog-friendly days-out list.
If you're hoping to eat inside the main pub, you'll want to plan ahead. Reservations are released a month at a time at 9amย and October is currently showing as fully booked, although cancellations can become available.
There are also food options that don't require the same main-pub reservation, so it's worth checking the latest information before making the journey!

๐ 4. Make some pumpkin dog treats
Pumpkin isn't just for carving.
If you've got some dog-safe pumpkin going spare, October is the perfect excuse to make your dog a seasonal snack.
And we already have you covered on this one.
We've put together an easy homemade pumpkin dog treat recipe, so rather than repeating ourselves here, head over to our recipe and get baking.
Your dog can thank us later.

๐ฒ 5. Explore somewhere new
October is the perfect excuse to swap your usual route for somewhere a little more adventurous.
Find a local woodland, arboretum, National Trust walk or countryside trail you've never explored before and make a morning of it.
Pack water, treats, poo bags and an extra layer for dogs who feel the cold.
And with the evenings getting darker, now's also a good time to think about visibility. Reflective or high-visibility accessories can be useful additions to your autumn dog walking setup.
Then comes the important question:
Who gets muddier first...you or the dog?
๐ 6. Give their autumn wardrobe a tiny upgrade
Not every autumn outfit requires a full wardrobe change.
Sometimes all you need is a bow. ๐
Our Poochie Bows attach around your dog's collar or harness with Velcro, making them an easy little addition to autumn walks, pumpkin-patch trips, pub visits and approximately 700 seasonal photos.
Choose from Capybarista, Prawn Star and Froget Me Notย because apparently we're incapable of naming anything normally.
And while autumn might traditionally belong to burnt orange, brown and beige...
we've never been particularly good at neutral.
๐ธ 7. Have an autumn dog photoshoot
Fallen leaves. Pumpkins. Golden-hour light. A dog who absolutely refuses to look at the camera.
October basically provides the set for you.
You don't need anything fancy. Find a colourful woodland, pumpkin patch or pile of crunchy leaves, get down to your dog's level and let autumn do most of the work.
Add their favourite dog bow, harness or Poochie Suit and you've got your October camera roll sorted.
Bonus points if you coordinate their outfit with the leaves.
Triple bonus points if you take 147 photos and precisely four are usable.
Happy October from Brooke & Chicken ๐
However you're spending October, pumpkin picking, exploring somewhere new, making dog treats, heading to the pub or simply enjoying increasingly chilly walks around the block, we hope there's plenty of wagging tails involved.
And if your dog's autumn wardrobe could use a little more colour?
Suit Season is waiting!
