About Poochie Keen

Dogs have always been at the heart of my world and have shaped who I am.

I’ve been lucky enough to spend many years working with dogs in daycares, boarding facilities, and eventually through my own dog walking business. From beach days and Halloween events to splashing in the local dog swim, my focus was always on building bonds, creating joyful outings, and making every moment special, safe and fun for the dogs in my care.

I've also volunteered for 2 months with rescue dogs abroad, which was a life-changing experience that deepened my mission: to give back to dogs, learn from them, and keep them at the centre of everything I do.

 
The real star of the show? Chicken! 🐾
My hairless sidekick, best friend, and business pawt-ner. Sensitive to the elements and full of sass, she inspired every part of this journey, from the fit of the suits to the joy behind every pattern. I love her more than words can say. She means absolutely everything to me 💘

Dog clothing?!

Some pups truly benefit from a little extra flair in their wardrobe, and for many, it’s much more than just fashion!

For slender, short-coated, or hairless breeds like Whippets, Xolos, Italian Greyhounds, and other sighthounds, clothing is often a necessity. With minimal body fat and sensitive skin, they can struggle to regulate temperature. A well-fitted layer helps keep muscles warm, protects their skin, and supports overall comfort from tail to snoot.

Playful pups who dive into mud puddles? Quick-drying suits help keep the dirt off and make cleanup a breeze. For allergy-prone dogs, clothing can act as a shield against environmental irritants, while senior dogs often love the warmth of a cozy layer for stiff joints.

Medical recovery, jackets for chilly days, reflective vests for nighttime safety or even snug fits that help anxious dogs feel more at ease during fireworks or storms - clothing truly can make a real difference.

Owning Chicken only deepened my understanding of how important the right layer can be. My goal is to create dog clothing that’s as thoughtful, functional, and joyful as our dogs deserve.

Poochie Keen

I draw every Poochie Keen doodle print by hand, then work with a manufacturing partner to bring those designs to life.

I live with Gastroparesis and CFS/ME, which for many years has made my health and energy unpredictable. Working with dogs has always been what I’ve wanted to do, and despite the challenges, I’ve been determined to find a way to keep doing what I love.

Poochie Keen grew from that dream. It gives me a way to stay creative, work with, be with and continue to learn about and understand dogs, and build something around the thing I’ve always cared about most, just in a way that works with my health too.

By working with a manufacturing partner, I’m able to focus my energy on the parts I love most: drawing the prints, developing new products, spending time with pups and learning what actually works for them. It also means the finished pieces are made by people with the professional skills, equipment and experience to make them to a consistently high standard!

While I do still tweak and adjust products on occasion, including samples and our Ruff Cuts range, Poochie Keen has never been about pretending everything has to be made entirely by me to be special, It’s special because it lets me be me.  Creative, a little silly and completely dog-obsessed, without the pressure on my health. Working this way means I can protect my energy, stay safe and keep doing the work I love!
