šŸ„ž Pancake Day, But Make It Dog-Friendly

When is pancake day 2026? TOMORROW!Ā

There are two main types of people on Pancake Day:

🐾 The lemon-and-sugar purists.
🐾 The chaotic topping architects.

And then there’s us… making pancakes for our dogs. Obviously.

If you’ve ever looked at your dog while flipping pancakes and thought, ā€œCan you have some?ā€ the good news is: yes, dogs can eat pancakes in small amounts, and made properly, dogs can safely enjoy a little plain hooman pancake.

The key word here is plain.

Of course, that means:

āŒ No chocolate chips
āŒ No nutmeg or mixed spices
āŒ No syrups or sugary toppings
āŒ No xylitol (ever, in anything)

Simple ingredients. No extras. Keep it boring on the inside so you can make it fun on the outside! That said… if you really want to spoil them (and avoid worrying about hidden ingredients in your own batter), making a dog-friendly version is even better!

šŸ—“ļø Why Do We Have Pancake Day?

Ever wondered why we have Pancake Day in the first place?

Pancake Day is actually the same thing as Shrove Tuesday. The day before Lent begins in the Christian calendar. Traditionally, people used up rich ingredients like eggs, milk and flour before a period of fasting.

(Which, conveniently, are exactly the ingredients needed for pancakes!)

So yes, Shrove Tuesday is Pancake Day, and we fully support continuing this very important historical tradition… just with a dog involved.

🐾 Our 2-Ingredient Dog Pancake Recipe

This year we kept it beautifully simple for our pancake batter ingredients:

🄚 2 eggs
šŸŒ 1 ripe banana

Mash the banana, whisk in the egg, and that’s it. That’s the batter!

If you’d prefer a slightly thicker, more traditional pancake texture, you can add around 100g of your chosen flour (plain flour or oat flour works well). Just make sure your dog tolerates it.

We cooked ours in a pan with the tiniest amount of coconut oil to stop sticking, not swimming in it, just enough for a light fry!

A few minutes each side on a gentle heat, and you’ve got golden little pancakes ready for decorating.

šŸŽØ The Best Part? Decorating.

Let’s be honest, this is where it becomes art!

This year, we went full theme and made a Strawbearies Poochie Suit–inspired pancake. šŸ“šŸ»

Yes. A pancake that matches the suit.
Because if you’re going to do Pancake Day… you may as well commit!

We used small strawberry pieces and tried our best to make a lil bear, to mirror the print vibe and kept it playful, very silly and a little chaotic, very on brand!

🐶 Why It’s Actually Lovely

Making dog-friendly pancakes has become one of our favourite Pancake Day activities. As someone who also doesn't eat pancakes, Chicken makes me feel part of the fun still! It’s quick, easy, and feels like you’ve made an event out of an ordinary Tuesday!

Fun decorating, a wonderful excuse for a photo memory opportunity, a little enrichment activity, a ā€œWow, I absolutely did not need to do thatā€ moment... and suddenly you’ve got yourself a full Shrove Tuesday tradition.

āš ļø A Quick Sensible Bit

Before you start flipping:

Always check your dog doesn’t have allergies or sensitivities to any of the ingredients.
Keep portions small, this is a treat, not a meal replacement.
If your dog has medical conditions (pancreatitis, diabetes, etc.), double check with your vet first to be sure.

Chicken, being the professional taste tester that she is, approves… but moderation still matters!
